But for us, it was also a story of split worlds. One of us was in Asia, too far to attend. The other was in South Africa that same weekend, witnessing <i><a href="https://www.thinkinelectronic.com/2025/10/lane-8-is-redefining-deep-house.html">Lane 8’s</a> </i>long-anticipated debut. Two monumental nights unfolding in parallel, each pulling in its own direction.<br /><br />Afro house, where we’re from, isn’t just sound. It’s rhythm, identity, and exchange—a dialogue between DJ and crowd that transcends geography.<br /><br />So when Keinemusik announced their Hong Kong date five months later, it felt like a second chance.<br /><br /> Set against the Hong Kong skyline, with the <i>Sky100 Hong Kong </i> rising in the background, AXA Wonderland had all the ingredients for something special. The stage leaned into local identity—a peace-sign structure illuminated with nods to the Qingming Festival.<br /><br />Visually striking, the setup worked—but not completely.<br /><br />Keinemusik’s shows often unfold through their <i>“Kloud”</i> aesthetic, where production frames the narrative of the night. Here, that layer felt stripped back, leaving an open-air event that looked premium but lacked the atmospheric depth of their signature worlds—especially when compared to landmark sets like the Keinemusik Giza set.<br /><br />Rain delayed the start, trimming what was meant to be a four-hour journey into a shorter window. <i>&ME, Rampa, and Adam Port</i> took over around 6:25 PM and ran through until 10.<br /><br />The set opened with an iconic unreleased ID, known to fans only through its lyrics, immediately setting the tone for the night. From there, the trio moved through a carefully balanced mix of familiar cuts, deeper selections, and unexpected turns.<br /><br />Technically, it was immaculate—clean transitions, rich layering, and that unmistakable Keinemusik polish. Yet despite its precision, the set felt compressed. A wicked remix of <b><i>Abra’s “Feel”</i></b> cut through with unexpected weight, while <b>Chris Lake’s “Ease My Mind” </b>brought a more familiar, vocal-driven moment that connected more immediately with the crowd—highlighting where the night’s energy naturally gravitated.<br /><br />When<i><b> Lovebirds’ “Want You In My Soul”</b></i> dropped, it carried timeless emotion—though the reaction it received told a different story. Back home in South Africa, that record still stops time. In Hong Kong, it barely made a ripple.<br /><br />Then came the night’s defining moment: an unreleased ID widely believed to be <b><i>Peaty & Jawora’s “One Time</i><i>.”</i></b> Fluid percussion, emotive synth work, and a perfectly resolved drop—it was a reminder of why Keinemusik’s curation remains unmatched.<br /><br />Ultimately, the night was shaped as much by the crowd as by the music. Hong Kong’s expat-heavy mix brought diversity, but not cohesion. At times, it felt fragmented—clusters of conversation cutting through transitions, attention drifting away from the floor.<br /><br />Afro house depends on reciprocity. The crowd feeds the DJ, and the DJ responds in kind. Here, that exchange never fully locked in. Even deeper moments—<b><i>Thandaza, Les Gout,</i></b> and <b><i>Uncle Waffles’s Tanzania (Rampa Remix)</i></b>—landed flatter than expected. Their absence gave the set a lighter touch, trading narrative weight for accessibility.<br /><br />The stage setup added an unintended barrier. Positioned low and wide, visibility was inconsistent across the venue. That physical distance translated into a subtle but noticeable disconnect between artist and audience. <br /><br />Logistics told their own story. Entry for FAMFAM ticket holders was seamless—perhaps too seamless. There were no bag checks, no security searches, and despite repeated pre-event messaging, no ID verification. Many arrived early in the rain, passports in hand, only to realise those checks were never enforced. It’s a small detail, but one that speaks to a wider point: in events of this scale, clarity and consistency shape trust as much as the music itself. <br /><br />The night found its resolution with <b><i>Guy Gerber’s What To Do (&ME Remix)</i></b>—a nostalgic closer that finally unified the crowd. For a brief moment, conversation stopped and movement returned. An encore felt possible, but it never came.<br /><br /><b><i>Keinemusik’s</i></b> Hong Kong show at AXA Wonderland wasn’t a failure—it was a meticulously crafted set that never quite transcended its conditions. Because with Keinemusik, the difference between good and unforgettable lies beyond the mix: in time, space, atmosphere, and the crowd that completes it. This time, those elements didn’t fully align. When they do, magic happens. <span style="color: black; font-family: inherit;">Münk is the brainchild of <b>C</b></span><span lang="EN-GB" style="color: black; font-family: inherit;"><b>ONTRXST</b> a creative startup collective that thrives off creating unique experiences of distinction</span><span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: inherit;">. Their debut event </span><span style="color: black; font-family: inherit;"><b>Münk Culture</b> was introduced to the world last year and is the amalgamation of four elements <i>bass, social, culture and style</i>. Their <a href="http://www.thinkinelectronic.com/2016/02/contrxst-brings-you-second-edition-of.html" target="_blank">second event</a> promised to be an escape from the ordinary, an escape into a world unlike anything before. With that said we had to find out if it was true or not. On Saturday  06 February 2016, we braced the horrid Johannesburg rain to attended the second edition of Münk Culture held at one of Johannesburg most loved party venues Carfax. </span></div>

The social element was created by building an environment welcoming of all diversities and encouraging social interaction with other party goers. The element of culture came from encouraging change and providing a space for individuals to open their minds to new ideas.</span><span style="color: black; font-family: inherit;">  </span><span style="font-family: inherit;">Celebrating new trends and welcoming </span>forward-thinking<span style="font-family: inherit;"> style makes up the final element, style in Münk Culture.</span></span></div>

<span style="color: black; font-family: inherit;">The lineup featured acts such as <b><a href="http://www.thinkinelectronic.com/2014/07/rikay-shows-us-his-deeper-side.html" target="_blank">Rikay</a>, Trancemicsoul, Niskerone, Mooi, <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Metro Ticket</b> and <b>Kollective Kulture</b> amongst others.</span><span style="font-family: inherit;"> </span><span style="color: black; font-family: inherit;">Looking at the lineup </span><span style="font-family: inherit;">o</span><span style="font-family: inherit;">ne would have thought that Münk would draw the older more refined crowd. This was however not the crowd that was there to party, it was rammed with young ones who had just received their rights of </span><span style="font-family: inherit;">passage</span><span style="font-family: inherit;"> into partying. Okay maybe not, but you get our drift. This was a surprise as we would have thought the lineup would have </span><span style="font-family: inherit;">deterred</span><span style="font-family: inherit;"> the kids of today who come across being ignorant with regard to music styles.</span></div>

The main </span><span style="font-family: inherit;">dance-floor</span><span style="font-family: inherit;"> was built into a little </span><span style="font-family: inherit;">oasis</span><span style="font-family: inherit;"> from LED </span><span style="font-family: inherit;">panels</span><span style="font-family: inherit;"> and homed the entertainers for the night. </span><span style="color: black; font-family: inherit;"> </span><span style="font-family: inherit;">The night progressed from the hi's and lo’s of techno all the way to deep house, future bass and trap. Each DJ </span><span style="font-family: inherit;">brought</span><span style="font-family: inherit;"> their own sound and the night was a pivotal moment in music education for the younger generation and for some hardcore one genre lovers.</span></span></div>

<span style="font-family: inherit;">We salute Münk for giving the up and coming DJs a chance to showcase their skills. We also need to give them points for picking a lineup which tapped out from the ordinary sound that everyone has come to love,"bigroom! Aside for the mishaps at the doors, the night was nothing short of superb. The music was the right amount of “underground” and the crowd welcomed it with open arms. The production from stage design to the sound system was up to the level of best.</span></div>

It is without a doubt that they have set a new standard for events in South Africa. </span><span style="font-family: inherit;">It was the illest event we've </span><span style="font-family: inherit;">attended</span><span style="font-family: inherit;"> in a while, and</span><span style="font-family: inherit;"> we can’t wait for the next Münk Culture! <span style="font-family: inherit;">Saturday night 13 December 2014, saw 50 000-
60 000 fans descend on the iconic FNB stadium to witness the<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>legendary American Rock Outfit -Foo Fighters
at the second of their two show South African tour. Now this is very different
to the usual electronic events we cover. But when the opportunity came for us
as a special media invite courtesy of Big Concerts to witness the “Foos” live
in action on home soil well, it is a no-brainer and we could not resist.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>Has to be said that as media guests getting
into the stadium was seamless and easy and we had awesome seats too!<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: inherit;">The opening act was South African rock band BLK JKS who told
us during their performance that the Foo Fighters had requested them as
openers. Pretty cool having home grown talent being requested by and showcased
at performances by world greats. They were followed by the English Indie rock
band the “Kaizer Chiefs” yes named after the South African football club Kaizer
chiefs. Definitely a special performance as the lead singer Ricky Wilson crooned
and charmed crowds in a Kaizer Chiefs kit shirt. A stand out moment was most
definitely when they performed one of our favourites “Ruby” and the entire
stadium crooned along.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

definitely set the scene for the main act the Foo Fighters who were greeted
with the eruption of near to 50 000 screaming people as they appeared on
stage led by lead vocalist and guitarist Dave Grohl belting out the grammy
award winning track “All my life”.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: inherit;">Now it has to be said the 45 year old Dave Grohl the former
Nirvana drummer with roles as the “Foos” lead vocalist, guitarist and
drummer/percussionist is truly the epitome of rock legend. He along with the
band had the crowd eating out of the palm of their hands as they performed hits
stretching across their 20 year existence.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: inherit;">Dave Grohl meant business when he kindly told the crowd that
they should prepare for a “ very long night” as they only plan to stop the
performance when they are tired “none of the 1 hour, 1 ½ <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>, 2 hour or even 2 ½ hour shit, we go on until
we tired” <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>he quipped and was not joking
as <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>the performance lasted a whopping 3
hours. Most definitely worth the price tag right?!?<o:p></o:p></span></div>

late, Grohl told the crowd, “This is our first time here ever and it’s a really
big deal. We didn’t know if anyone knew our songs or the band, but since we got
here, everyone has been so nice to the band I have no idea why we waited so
long.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

America, Canada, the UK, Japan, and then someone would say ‘Hey, do you want to
go to those places you’ve never been? And we were like hell no! We’re
exhausted’. But this time we thought, why don’t we start the world tour in
South Africa?” <o:p></o:p></span></div>

Park!", "Monkey Wrench",</span><span style="mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-ZA;"> "Congregation" and "Walk". We were also treated to solo Grohl performances

Taylor Hawkins swopped roles. Hawkins showcased his vocal talent by singing a
cover of Cheap Tricks “Stiff competition” while Grohl displayed instrumental
mastery on the drums. That was not the end of the covers though as the band
also performed a cover of Queen and David Bowie’s seminal hit “Under Pressure”,
as well as the Rolling Stones’ “Miss You” much to the crowds delight as the
show neared the end. With an already impeccable performance and without a doubt
having pleased the thousands of fans the Foo Fighters closed their show with
“Best of You” followed by “Everlong”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
