In the City is back this year with a twist.  Backed by South Africa's number one online retailer, Superbalist.com this years festival promises to be an unbelievable music experience, not just for one day but for three. For the first time ever In the City is expanding to a full weekend city takeover. To sweeten the deal Superbalist will ensure that all ticket holders have no excuses not to look fresh at #SITC2016 by giving every Superbalist In The City ticket holder a Superbalist voucher which can be redeemed online!

Opening up this highly anticipated festival, In the City will host three separate events for lovers of electronic, house, urban, hip-hop, indie and everything in between, all under the banner of the In the City Weekend. Each of the three events that make up the weekend takeover have a totally different vibe, from electronic on the Friday night, to urban, hip-hop and house on the Saturday, to indie-rock on the Sunday. The entire line-up is yet to be announced, but have a peek below to see who is already confirmed.

First up on the bill are U.S. Grammy award nominees and award winning, indie band Foster the People who will headline the concert on Sunday 9 October.  Foster the People are responsible for smash-hits such as "Helena Beat", "Don't Stop (Color on the Walls)" and "Coming of Age" and “Pumped Up Kicks”. We are sure they will ignite Emmarentia Dam with their addictive, quirky dance-infused pop and rock.

Next up is a Think In Electronic personal favourite Daniel Pearce, better known as Eats Everything. The Bristol born DJ/Producer  will headline the AND Liftoff party on Friday 7 October. His set promises to take you on a journey into the new strand of forward-thinking underground music.

Keeping with the English, is London’s very own one-of-a-kind, unbelievably talented multi-vocalist, beatboxer and live loop master, Beardyman.  Known as the ‘king of sound, ruler of beats and destroyer of dance-floors’, Beardyman has won the UK Beatboxing championships twice!

The most recent line-up name to grace the line-up is 24-years old, Mac Miller. Mac is part of the new school of hip-hop, a group of fast rising stars who are taking over the scene. In just nine short years since “dedicating his life to hip-hop” at the age of 15, his style has evolved from teenage frat-rapping to a more introspective and spiritual style in later albums like Faces and GO:OD AM. His sound has evolved from what critics call ‘party rap’ to an adaptive free-associative rhyming style, where Mac Miller is not just a rapper anymore, but also an eclectic artist who can easily adapt to different genres and can also craft, both for him and for other artists.

One weekend. Three incredible music experiences.

Bringing it back to downtown Jo'burg, the home of In the City, electronic music fans can look forward to a Friday night kick-off party featuring the best in international and local underground electro, deep house and techno for AND Liftoff on 7 October. Renowned for their uncompromising music ethos, the collective of ardent individuals behind the brand are constantly pushing the boundaries of the music that Jo'burg clubbers are exposed to.

On Saturday 8 October, cultural melting pot Braamfontein will be transformed into a tropical beach paradise for the Virgin Mobile Braam Beach Party. Complete with beach sand, palm trees and awesome mobile connectivity, partygoers can make the most of summer in the city – so come dressed in your summer outfits. SA’s best house and hip hop acts will take to the stage to spin lyrics and turn tables while the sun sets over Nelson Mandela Bridge. Head to Great Dane in Braam ‪on Thursday night 7 July for the big line-up reveal hosted by Virgin Mobile.

The pinnacle of the weekend remains the In the City Concert, set in the heart of Jo'burg’s city parks, Emmarentia Dam on Sunday 9 October. Join us for a beautiful day on the grass while listening to the world-class line-up of international artists fresh off the plane from sister Cape Town festival Rocking the Daisies.
