Hailing from the unlikeliest
of places in Mystic, Connecticut, American DJ and producer Audien has made a name
for himself among dance music’s greats. Nominated as “Best New Artist of 2013”
by SiriusXM, and frequently topping the
Beatport charts (“Hindsight”, “Eylsium”) the music prodigy teams up with
renowned singer/songwriter Matthew Koma for his latest single, “Serotonin.”
An invigorating summer tune,
the track exemplifies its title. Koma’s soulful, enlivening vocals accompany a
whirlwind of mesmerizing harmonies in “Serotonin;” out June 16th on Spinnin’
Records.
“With Serotonin, I wanted to challenge myself and my audience by
emulsifying some unexpected production elements with my signature sound. I'm indebted to Matthew for taking the track
to the next level with his delightfully seductive words and voice,” Audien says.
Koma adds, “Serotonin was a song I wrote one night in
New York City, immediately after hearing an instrumental idea [Audien] had
worked on. I had the idea for a song called Serotonin for a while - sort of
based on a relationship I was in that so obviously had an expiration date, but
was also so chemically charged that I couldn't help but blindly chase the high.
I hadn't found the right inspiration to finish the idea and I remember feeling
really buzzed by the drama of Nate's progression and his arrangement ideas as
soon as I heard it. It was sophisticated, but there was something manic about
it that I loved. I came back to that Serotonin idea and it felt like the right
marriage, emotionally, to where the music was coming from”.
For a guy that had never been on a plane as of just
two years ago, Audien has come a long way - adapting and finding musical
inspiration in new and unexpected places, all the while acting as a trailblazer
for sound. “Serotonin” is the latest addition to his arsenal of groundbreaking
material, a refreshing glass of summer’s sweet nectar.
Audien can be seen this
summer at festivals including Tomorrowland, Paradiso, and Electric Zoo. He’ll
be flying to all destinations.
