YUNGEN BRINGS PROJECT BLACK & RED

YUNGEN || PROJECT BLACK & RED

Released: 21st September 2014 || Label: FOREVER YUNG
YUNGEN PROJECT BLACK & RED

Fresh from an international tour with Naughty Boy, seeing him share stages with Emeli Sande & Wretch 32, south London wordsmith Yungen defies the conventional music release pattern by releasing not one but TWO projects on the same day in the shape of PROJECT BLACK & RED.

Having been championed by tastemakers including DJ Semtex (BBC 1xtra) and Jamal Edwards (SB.TV) as one of the most exciting prospects to arise from the underground; his lyrical flamboyance coupled with his honesty and intelligence greatly surpassing his tender 21 years, has gained him a solid and loyal fan base:

“Yungen has been patiently waiting, perfecting his sound, nurturing his own fanbase, serving up the streets. It is his time” – DJ Semtex, BBC 1Xtra.
“Ever since I filmed Yungen years ago on his Warm Up, he’s had some sick bars and this project proves he can actually pull a track together and smash it” - Jamal Edwards , Founder of SB.TV
With hard hitting rap production, catchy melodies and lyrics, Yungen demonstrates a creative, dynamic and unique approach to engaging, interacting and delivering to his huge, independently amassed, active fanbase.

“Project Black & Red is based on moods, sides to every musician’s character. For myself, Black has feelings of frustrations, street issues & ignorant rapper issues. Red has feelings of passion, love, girl issues as well as expressing my personal life situations” - Yungen
Yungen displays his mature, deep & personal side through low tempo mellow tracks such as Too Real’ by discussing different emotions experienced when growing up in south London pursuing the path of music, and ‘Friends’ where he talks about the different roles individuals play in the hood by so called ‘Friends’.

“More time I go out my way / And they don’t show the same love back / But if I could turn back time I’d do it again / Where I’m from I weren’t raised like that” – Too Real
Included are up-tempo punchline-filled humor tracks such as ‘#JustSaying’ with Krept & Konan & ‘I Get It’ with G Frsh, displaying the illustrious style of punchline rap which Yungen has mastered and quickly gained the respect and adoration from fellow peers within the scene.
“Said she likes speed but she don’t know her limit / That grey goose straight nearly took her spirit” – I Get It

Yungen has the ability to vividly describe situations within relationships, which allows the listener to relate. This is displayed on  ‘Honeymoon’s Over’ featuring Jareth where he talks about a relationship following the honeymoon period. He further demonstrates this on ‘Good Girl’ where he discusses holding a relationship down despite the pitfalls of social media and being surrounded by women throwing themselves at fame and fortune.

“I wanted to create 2 projects which represent me and show the stage I’m at as an artist in my career. For me, at the moment the fans are who have got me to where I am. I feel it’s a crucial time for them to fully understand who I am & where I’m trying to get to” - Yungen

With features on both projects from the UK’s rapping heavyweights (Wretch 32, Krept & Konan, Sneakbo, G Frsh), Yungen has definitely forced the ‘urban’ world to sit up and take notice, for what he’s about to do next is a perfect indication of the progress this 21 year old has made in such short space of time.
