Taking Time Out To Speak Horus With Flatdisk  Interviewed By: Layla and Yasmin

Flatdisk is an electronic dance duo formed by Leonardo Grillotti and Axel Ulivi. Their main aim is to entertain the masses by sharing their passion for music, especially for Progressive House and Pop. Flatdisk were the winners of Revealed Beatports contest in 2013 winning the best remix for 3lau, Paris &Simo and Bright Lights Escape out of 1700. This win brought them support from many A list DJs such as Hardwell, David Guetta, Nicky Romero ,Armin van Buuren and more. Releasing on Revealed, CR2 and various other labels there is only one way for this Italian duo and that is up.

We were offered the opportunity to get to the duo better and we couldn't pass it up.

Hello Leonardo and Axel, it’s such a huge honor to be doing this interview with you, thank you much for taking time out to do it with us.

Hello and thanks for having us.

How are you doing and what do you to guys like to do to de-stress? 

We're doing pretty good , a lot going on at the moment.

We 're thinking about buying a distress machine lol..we're continually in contact with music but when we have some free time we like to go for a swim in the sea or just read a book.

We are from South Africa, and we ask all our “guests” this. What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you hear South Africa?

The first thing that comes to mind when we hear South Africa are all the wide open spaces,waterfalls and exotic animals included.

Together you form Flatdisk For all our readers out there who don’t know who Flatdisk is please can you tell us a little more about how you both met and how Flatdisk was formed?

We Flatdisk are an Electronic duo formed in 2010. We describe ourselves as 2 musicians,producers and djs. We've been in touch with music since we were kids playing rock and pop in various bands and Leonardo studied violin and piano at the conservatory.

Then we started producing and djing just for fun and things evolved quickly.

Where does your love for music stem from? Have you always wanted a career in music?

There  has always been music around us at home and a musical career is what we always wanted for sure.

It’s no secret you guys have a passion for progressive house, if you were trying to convert someone to become a prog house lover, how would you describe prog house as and what song would you play them?

We would describe Progressive House as a combination of various styles and atmospheres rolled together with magic..We would play some of the classic extra special ones from the past for them.

Your latest track Horus was featured on Dannic’s Selection 1 what were you aiming for when you started working on the track?

We wanted to give  an Egyptian feel to it but hard at the same time..Something to depict the power of Horus, the Egyptian God.

When producing where do you draw inspiration from and how do you know you satisfied with the end product?

We listen to so much music all the time which gives us energy and then the music comes from out there..and mostly you have to be receptive.

For all the geeks out there what is your current studio set up and who does what in the studio?

Our setup for the geeks is cdj2000 Piooner and Piooner Mixer as well which is a standard. In the studio obviously we have a computer with all the vst necessary connected to a Fireface audio 800 and 2 Genelec speakers. We also have some external Keybords like Korg, Mini Moog, Novation etc.

Having your music released on Revealed surely means you are doing something right, what’s next for Flatdisk? Where are you guys heading?

For sure releasing music on Revealed is really important, we simply want to get better and better and offer something new in each new release. We've got a lot of new material ready to be heard.

You’ve just remixed Hurricane by Orjan Nilsen and Christina Novelli what about the original track stood out for you and how did you decide on what direction you wanted to go with the remix?

For the remix for Orjan Nilsen- Hurricane we just wanted to create something with a fairy tale touch to it.

Your sound is very warm and melodic, would you say you have a set sound if yes how long did it take to find the sound that worked? 

At the moment we haven't decided what direction to take as a message in Music but we are sure we'll have something worth listening to.

Are there any artists who you guys would like to work with?

There are many artists we'd love to work with. Artists with the Axtone or Size flavor.

Which do you prefer DJ’n or Producing?

We love both Djing and producing.

 If you could be any animal what animal would you be?

Both our stars signs are LEO so we would be Lions for sure. lol

If you could pick one place to live in for the rest of your life where would you choose?

We haven't been all around the world yet..but for the moment we would choose Ibiza.
