SOUTH AFRICAN CONNECTION STRENGTHENED AT #SONARBARCELONA #SONAR2014
South Africa and its electronic music culture will be in focus at this year’s international S贸nar Festival in Barcelona, Spain from 12-14 June.
According to a report by the International Music Summit, South Africa is responsible for the largest consumption of electronic music worldwide. S贸nar+D (S贸nar by Day) will host a round table discussion on “The Revolution in South African Electronic Music Consumption”. Aimed at exploring trends in electronic music, Sonar+D is also a platform for industry professionals to network and for the public to gain access to international knowledge.
Jade Adami, Marketing and Communications Manager at Seed Experiences, has been invited to sit on the panel, along with South Africa’s top electronic producers Spoek Mathambo and Sibot. Valentino Barrioseta, co-founder and CEO of Bridges for Music, will chair the panel.
Spoek Mathambo and Sibot, along with SA’s Transmicsoul, are also among the world’s best electronic music talent who will perform at the international festival of advanced music this year.
In 2013, members of the Seed Experiences team travelled to Barcelona to experience S贸nar Festival first hand and consolidate a global connection between South Africa and the festival. This year several members of the team will again travel to Barcelona alongside representatives from the City of Cape Town to take learnings from the well-established cultural partnership between S贸nar Festival and the City of Barcelona.
One-eyed Jack, the specialist SA communications agency commissioned by Seed Experiences to manage S贸nar Cape Town’s PR and marketing, will also attend S贸nar in June to gain insight into the festival rollout.
The presence of so many South Africans at the festival from various fields associated with the electronic music culture affirms both Sonar’s and Seed Experiences’ decision to host S贸nar Cape Town on 16 December 2014at the city’s iconic Good Hope Centre.
Sonar Fan Experience competition winner announced
Along with the already strong SA contingent heading to Barcelona, Seed Experiences and S贸nar Cape Town are excited to announce that Nafisa Bhikhoo has won the S贸nar Fan Experience Competition. Nafisa will fly from Joburg with her sister to S贸nar Barcelona in less than three weeks’ time.
The prize includes return flights from Joburg, four nights’ accommodation, breakfast and two full passes to S贸nar Barcelona.
