Exclusive interview with Soul Candi's Kyle Worde ahead of Ultra South Africa

1.     What’s the best thing about living in South Africa?

The best thing about living in this country for me is it’s diversity, culture and the fact that there is no other place like it!

2.     Can you tell us a bit more about yourself and how you got into music?

I got an early start! Ha! Started DJing at age 12 – full on bedroom DJ geek!
At about age 16 I attended a private production course with Ryan Murgatroyd (Crazy White Boy) and from that was signed to Soul Candi Records at age 17! The rest is not so much history, but rather as I like to say, still a work in progress ;)

3.     You are on the line up to play at Ultra South Africa what does this mean to you and how does it make you feel?

To be honest I guess it’s still somewhat surreal to have my name on a lineup and next to names such as those internationals! I’m really looking forward to my set on the 15^th of Feb!

4.     What about Ultra stands out for you?

Ultra has become iconic in the dance scene around the world, from the record label, artists and this monstrous world wide event – there isn’t much that doesn’t stand out to me or anyone!

5.     What can fans expect from your set at Ultra South Africa?

I’ll be on the Soul Candi Live stage, so a little something different to what they’re used to, but my plan is to just play some of my favourite house records old & new!

6.     In your opinion what does Ultra South Africa mean for South Africa’s electronic music scene?

I must admit, having Ultra hit South Africa says a lot for where we are musically and at the same time shows that we as a country are now FINALLY on the map and in the eyes of our favourite internationals! It’s about time actually!

7.     Where do you see the electronic music scene in South Africa in 5 years time?

Running out of international artists to bring to SA for their first time! Haha! Apart from that, I do see that we’re definitely going to have a way more educated dancefloor to play to, too!

8.     Have you ever been lucky enough to attend Ultra Music Festival in Miami if yes what was the experience like for you, if not would you like to attend and why?

Have not. Must! Apart from the epic (not ever used too loosely) lineup, the setting is what does it for me! Outdoors in Miami… I mean, what more could you want?

9.     Lastly what does Soul Candi represent for you

Soul Candi has always been an iconic house brand and a brand that I have looked up to since I got into DJing so to me it’s more than what it has become but also where it came from! Definitely a pioneering brand behind the house music scene here in SA!
