GRIETFEST 2013 Get to Know the Artist on The Bill

 Das Kapital
These days it is rare for a young musician to have such a well-earned and perfectly tuned instinct about music production, track selection and the craft of Djing.  In a landscape of easily accessible tools and tricks, few take the time to “climb the ladder” in a natural and progressive way, with hunger as passion as a motivating factor, not fame. Das Kapital is a young musical force who displays all these qualities, and is a great example of what can be accomplished with hard word, determination and excellent natural talent.

Having made his name initially via a remix of Bon Iver which went to number 1 on Hype Machine and has now been favourited more than 22,000 times and played over 132,000 times on Soundcloud, he has since officially remixed international releases for William Orbit, Nick Thayer, Drumsound & Bassline Smith ft Hadouken, Rob Zombie, Laidback Luke and Sandro Silva (to name a few) with many more in the pipeline.

This year saw him release his first two EPs on his own label Do Work Records which have received worldwide DJ and radio support.  South Africa’s 5FM’s listeners voted BrainBang the “Hottest Track in South Africa” with the track being playlisted by the station.

His latest feature and production for Universal SA’s Caitlin “All Night To Dance” was also playlisted by Urban station YFM

He has officially reworked the iconic Nokia ringtone and written music for the American trailer for the movie 21 Jump St; for Adidas commercials, indie movie music (Harlinn), and US TV show usages

As a DJ he has headlined many of South Africa’s biggest events including Ramfest, Cape Town International Jazz Festival, Oppikoppi, Cape Town Electronic Festival, Park Acoustics; and in July he will be playing at two UK festivals – Secret Garden Party and NASS Festivals

He is also booked to play gigs all over South Africa every week where his DJ sets match his productions moulding intricate percussion, brooding melodies and dark bass.  Refusing to be tied down by any one genre, he takes the crowd on an introspective journey while drawing from his surroundings. Mashing up everything from Electro to Kuduro to Dancehall, it is clear that versatility is his weapon of choice.

He has previously performed with Diplo, Pendulum DJs, LV, Kode 9, Scratcha DVA and Koan Sound in South Africa as well as having played multiple back-to-back sets with South African Hard-Electro doyen HAEZER.

If that wasn’t enough, he presents a three hour long radio show on Assembly Radio (http://theassembly.co.za/radio/) from 9pm-12pm every Wednesday which incorporates the exclusive presentation of chart topper Nicky Romero’s Protocol Radio show.

He has featured Dismantle, Koan Sound and Prok & Fitch as guest mixers previously.
