When we are not making music we run our label, Kannibalen Records! From our end it seems like you are just 3 guys who make music together. We almost sure there’s more to it. How did you meet and what led to the forming of Black Tiger Sex Machine?</span></b></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-family: inherit;">Marc and Patrick have known each other since they were about 3 or 4 years old, and Julien came into the picture in high school, so we’ve all been friends for a really long time. We became interested in making music and DJing in 2007 because we loved electronic music, and BTSM started being formed in 2009</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <b><span style="color: #f1c232; font-family: inherit;">3. Now this interview would be complete without asking something about the name and the tiger masks. The name is pretty outrageous, what’s the story behind the name and the masks?</span></b></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-family: inherit;">The name is just really a bunch of words put together that we thought sounded cool, kind of dark but also ridiculous and over-the-top. The masks were made by a friend of ours who studied industrial design. Music is a staple in our lives. The genre of BTSM is described as futuristic thriller. We sure all the geek out there would like to know what your studio set up is and how you guys go from idea to finished product?</span></b><br /> <b><span style="color: #f1c232; font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></b></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-family: inherit;">Well, for the production, usually the projects start out on Patrick’s laptop on Ableton Live, with just some headphones and a midi keyboard. Then they move to Julien’s workstation which has some good speakers, and stuff happens there. Then it goes back and forth between everyone until we are satisfied. Nothing too unusual; we don’t really have crazy production gear.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-family: inherit;">For the live show, Marc takes care of structuring everything, and we practice at his place, where we have a lot of controllers, virtual drums, etc.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <b><span style="color: #f1c232; font-family: inherit;">8. Your performances are part DJ set part live performance. How do you prepare for shows and what makes attending a BTSM show stand out? Any pre show rituals?</span></b></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-family: inherit;">We prepare for shows by sacrificing a small child to our demon overlords. For real, we don’t really have any pre-show rituals. I guess putting on the helmets is kind of like a ritual that puts us in the proper mindset.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-family: inherit;">What makes a BTSM show stand out.. we aren’t just mixing tracks one after the other. We are combining stems, samples, live parts played on keyboards, etc. So it means every performance is unique. We coordinate through Facebook chat, work on Google Drive for all our admin stuff. The one guy committed suicide. One day after school, my mom's bedroom door just opens by itself as I am walking to the kitchen. (Yes, it was a tiny townhouse.) Now, I know what you're thinking... Wind, duh. But I saw the actual door handle open. I ran outside waiting for my mom to get back. After a few minutes the adrenaline and scare wore off and now I am curious. I go back in and hear a hissing sound. I slowly make my way into the bedroom and creep my head around towards the strange hissing sound. What do I find? Well, the ghost decided to do some ironing. I unplugged the iron and that was that. Our aim with Run with Me was to make our first track that was suitable for a great singer. Producing is a lot harder than it sounds. How did you both learn to produce? After we learned the basics we realized we still had a ton to learn so we both attended Cosmic Academy where we were taught everything in depth to the science of sound and technicalities of music production. Usually we just make them out of necessity we will come across a track that we really like but we either feel that the track needs a vocal or needs a better drop so from there we just mash it up with whatever our ear tells us will work best. In parallel Zach had took on Djing and bought cdjs-1000 and quickly learned how to DJ with CD’s. We met back at sound engineering school where I was nerdy enough to finish but Zach left halfway. fortunately we had already created “madkids” so we kept at it !</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <b><span style="color: #f1c232; font-family: inherit;">You were first called Madkids and changed it to Prince Club. BT & Christian Burns' release saw huge chart success followed by an official music video which premiered at THUMP, and now their track has been canonised with 5 brand new remixes from Maor Levi, Juventa, The Spacies, and WAVO remix competition winners T-Mass and Joakim Carley.<br /><br />First up on remix duties is Israeli production talent Maor Levi who brings his trademark melodic big room sound to the table for an unforgettable 'Paralyzed' experience. Reinventing the bassline and playfully reworking the vocals, Maor Levi was an obvious choice to breathe a new lease of life into the stunning Original.<br /><br />Up next is Enhanced wunderkind Juventa, who previously mixed half of the acclaimed Enhanced Sessions Volume 4. With his signature progressive style synths and his heavy drums, he creates a melody that will tear apart any club whilst playfully reworking the vocals to sublime effect . Inspired by the original track, Juventa uses his own distinct style to remix 'Paralyzed'.<br /><br />Third are Enhanced newbies The Spacies who recently released the huge tune 'Voices' with Enhanced regular Estiva. This remix marks a greatly uplifting track, with its huge drums, special effects, and bright synths. The Spacies' take on the Original will have every bone in your body moving.<br /><br />T-Mass creates a massive dubstep remix for the fourth track. His synth progressions evoke emotion and inspiration, and he uses the Original's vocal samples in a melodically driving way. T-Mass won the WAVO remix competition for 'Paralyzed' with his unique and and extremely addictive take on the track.<br /><br />WAVO runner up, Swedish producer Joakim Carley turns out a DnB rework of 'Paralyzed'. The pacing drums along with the ethereal synth pads and sentiment-inducing piano chords create a great backdrop for the vocal sample to come through and provoke even more feeling.<br /><br />These 5 remixes each have their own style and each take on 'Paralyzed' in their own original way.
