Caspa To Replace Benga at CTEMF 2014

CAPE TOWN.  As much of the music world is now aware, Benga has hung up his headphones and called it quits on his DJ career. This just a week before he was set to headline CTEMF. “We have been in contact with management over the past days and are still awaiting an official statement, but unfortunately we can confirm that Benga will not be performing at CTEMF” says Duncan Ringrose, CTEMF founder.
He continues, “Although this is of huge disappointment, we are very excited to be able to announce UK dubstep/grime producer Caspa as the replacement act. If there was anybody that could be considered as important to the formation and championing of the global bass scene it would have to be Caspa. Officially we can confirm that Caspa will perform at CTEMF on Saturday 8th February 2013.
It is impossible to discuss the history of dubstep without mentioning the name Caspa. The London raised producer first stepped into the scene in 2003 when, under the pseudonym Quiet Storm - his track “Bass Bins” was picked up by BBC 1xtra’s J Da Flex. The following year, Caspa founded his first label Storming Productions, which soon became one of the dominating underground labels of the time.

Next, Caspa founded a sister label Dub Police, which featured successful releases from artists including The Others and Rusko. Dub Police has played a key role in breaking some of the world’s top bass artists.

In 2007 Caspa and Rusko were then approached by Fabric to mix the 37th installment of the FabricLive series; this was the first commercially available dubstep compilation and it played a significant part in bringing the genre into the spotlight globally.
By 2009, Caspa was performing at high profile gigs and festivals, including Glastonbury, Global Gathering and Exit. Remixes also followed for artists such as Depeche Mode,Swedish House Mafia and Katy B'.

Today, Caspa is regarded as a dubstep pioneer and original maverick of the genre.

2013 saw Caspa release his second album 'Alpha Omega' on Dub Police, tour the USA, India, Australia and play key shows including the inaugural EDC London (UK), Mysteryland (NL), Fest in Het Park (BE), Rock Summer (EE), UKF (Prague), Bootshaus (Cologne), Doomsday (Antwerp) and London's Fabric.

As the year drew to a close, Caspa released the 'Past, Present, Future' triple-CD compilation on Dub Police and took label-mates Trolley Snatcha, Subscape and J:Kenzo on an extensive Dub Police North American tour in November before returning to the UK to support The Prodigy on their UK tour.

He also took part in Vibe Magazine/Flyotw's 'Behind the Beats' documentary (view here.)

Opening his account for 2014 is a new edition of his Dubstep Sessions mix CD, due for release in March and is hard at work in the studio with further releases planned throughout the year.

CASPA headlines CTEMF in Cape Town on Saturday 8th February 2014 at The Grand Parade, Cape Town.
